In days gone by measured building surveys were carried out using tape measures, a large sheet of paper and a wooden board. Some companies still do it that way and that’s not necessarily such a bad thing in certain circumstances. Whilst there is a time and place for the older methods, when carrying out our measured building surveys we are firmly in the 21st Century.
Using the latest measured building survey software and modern, touch screen field computers, data is stored and verified on site and in real time using laser measuring equipment with Bluetooth connectivity. The result is more efficient survey teams, higher quality drawings and increased productivity. Ultimately, this can mean lower prices for our clients. What’s more, by using this super accurate technology we can virtually eliminate the potential for mistakes due to sagging tape measures or human error.
From architects and structural engineers, from private developers and house builders to estate agents, chartered building surveyors and M&E engineers, we provide surveys to a huge range of clients right across the broad spectrum of property and construction. Crucially, however, we appreciate that almost every client needs to achieve different results from their surveys. M&E engineers, for example, may require a relatively simple survey with only certain salient features being highlighted. An architect working on an extension to an existing structure, however, would generally require a far more comprehensive measured building survey.
We work in partnership with a number of EPC survey firms across the UK, provide them with energy assessment drawings that help form the basis of their survey whilst also delivering similar measured building surveys to private developers and office space lettings organisations wishing to value their properties based on floor space. We produce licensing plans for public houses, marketing plans for house builders and even carry out verification surveys to assess the accuracy of other firms’ surveys.
A measured building survey can be as simple or as complex as you need and is very easily mated to one of our own topographic surveys that can also display ground investigation locations (boreholes, trial pits etc.) and the findings of any utilities mapping or drainage surveys that may have been carried out. Features picked up during one of our surveys could include everything from walls, windows and doors, sill and head heights to spot heights, sanitary ware, fire alarms, electrical points, gas entry points, electricity meters and so on. The scale of the survey and the list of features that can be picked up is only determined by the requirements of the project in hand.
